As is very traditional for French schools, Wednesday afternoons are free of classes, which means class officially stops at 11:30am. After lunch today my friend and I went to inquire about some classes at a local art center and then headed off to the center of town, where she departed to look into some baking classes and I went to buy envelopes, one of the items on my to do list. After walking around in circles, I found the large shopping center in the south center of town and found envelopes, which is harder than you think when you aren't familiar with the stores. There is no Target or Walgreens here that sells everything. But this brings me to my next point...
Students who are interested in doing SYA, just a word of advice: Bring your own reusable water bottle. Stuff it full of something and it won't be a waste of space in your suitcase. It's become a small running joke between a few of us here that no one can find a normal reusable water bottle. After searching for one today, and most of last week, I managed to find one, meant for children with Barbapapa on it, a well known cartoon series here in Europe, but that was in a specialty cooking store. Along the way I found travel mugs for tea and coffee, hilarious considering everyone here sits down to drink their hot beverages, but almost no water bottles. Another one of those cultural differences that you don't expect and don't think about before hand. .
This weekend is our first school trip together, because we have been in school five days and all desperately need a vacation. We leave early Friday morning to explore Brittany and return Sunday night, stopping along the way to visit castles, old monuments and possibly the beach. I probably won't post until Monday or Tuesday again, as we will be away in a hotel, but will have plenty of pictures when I return.
