A really big adjust to being here is the large amount of freedom you have. The school obviously trusts us a lot because not only can we choose where we want to go for lunch, walk there by ourselves, but if we have free time, we are allowed to leave campus.
Today was placement test day. In the morning we had three hours of French, followed by an hour and a half lunch, and then an oral exam for French, in which we were questioned by a member of the staff. I was the first one in my group for the second part and was done right away, within five minutes or so. This afternoon is the math exam and since I'm not taking math they told me I could go. I though they meant to the common room. Nope, they meant I could go home or walk around the town, as long as I was back at school by 4pm for a brief meeting and to hopefully pick up my suitcase. (Side note, it ended up in St. Petersburg, Russia. I have no idea how. It's the last one that needs to be delivered.)
So, I went home, dropped off my school bag, am posting this and might head out to explore the town a little, in advance of our scavenger hunt tomorrow, or find the bus stop. It takes a lot of getting used to, to be allowed to just head out of school like this. Although they take security very seriously, we are treated like adults. It's really cool.
(Speaking of lunch; we can chose between two local lycées to eat in, or we can go buy something at a shop out of our own money. Both cafeterias have amazing food. Today was breaded fish with lemon served over mini shell pasta in a creamy sauce. It's a good thing I walk to school.)
